TL;DR.April global AI-tool visits reached 17.52B, essentially flat at +0.03% MoM — March's broad surge faded, with only 2 of 12categories growing (General AI +1.1%, Characters&Fun +1.5%). Top-tier divergence continued: Claude +34.2% (823M, closing in on Canva); ChatGPT fell for the first time at -3.8%; Gemini +6.4%, pushing the ChatGPT/Gemini ratio below 2× for the first time; and 3D-gen breakout Meshy.ai crossed 18M visits, the standout mid-tier story of the month.

1. Market Overview: Broad Rally Fades, General AI Carries the Market

March's 11-of-12-categories rally reversed completely in April. Rolling up 17,934 products to top-level categories, total visits are nearly unchanged (+0.03% MoM) — but beneath this apparent calm lies massive internal divergence: General AI added +124M visits while the other 10 declining categories shed -118M, nearly cancelling each other out.

3. Claude Keeps Surging: 823M Visits Closing in on Canva

Following March's +111.4%, claude.ai added another +34.2% in April, growing from 614M to 824M visits — just 150M behind Canva's 973M at #3. At the current trajectory, Claude could overtake Canva in May and become the first non-search AI entry to cross 1B visits.

In absolute terms, Claude gained +210M incremental visits in April — the largest monthly gain in the index (ChatGPT lost -220M in the same period). This is the first time a non-Google product has out-gained ChatGPT in absolute monthly additions.

Claude share expansion: Claude's share within the tracked sample rose to 4.7% (vs 3.5% in March), while ChatGPT slipped from 32.8% to 31.5%. The top-3 concentration dynamic is structurally shifting.

4. ChatGPT Dips for the First Time, but Scale Advantage Holds

ChatGPT recorded 5.51B visits in April, down -3.8% (-220M). In our tracked data window, this is the first month-over-month decline for chatgpt.com. Note: a single-month -3.8% could be seasonal noise or an early signal that competitive pressure is finally showing up in traffic. The ChatGPT/Gemini ratio narrowed to 2.00× (from 2.21× in March).

Despite the dip, ChatGPT's 5.51B monthly visits still nearly doubles Gemini's 2.76B — absent a sustained slide, this scale advantage provides a durable competitive moat.

5. Gemini Steady Growth: ChatGPT Ratio Dips Below 2×

Gemini grew +6.4% to 2.76B, its third consecutive month of positive growth. The ChatGPT/Gemini ratio fell from 2.53× (Feb) → 2.21× (Mar) → 2.00× (Apr) — breaking below 2× for the first time. If this trend holds, Google gains meaningful enterprise negotiating leverage: a Gemini in the same order of magnitude as ChatGPT fundamentally changes how enterprise buyers think about vendor lock-in.

6. Growth Leaders: Meshy.ai 3D Generation Goes Mainstream

Growth list filters for current-month visits ≥1M and prior-month ≥100K, to filter small-sample noise from new entrants.

Meshy.ai: 3D Generation Goes Mainstream

Meshy.ai hit 18.1M visits (+97.8%), breaking into the top-3 of the Image category. This is the first time an AI 3D-asset generation tool has reached visible monthly traffic scale — previously this sub-segment was completely overshadowed by 2D image generators. Meshy's core feature is text/image → 3D model conversion, primarily serving game developers and designers. The visit doubling suggests this tool class is crossing from geek community to professional workflow adoption.

Xiaomi MiMo: Chinese On-Device AI Gets Noticed

mimo.xiaomi.com appeared on our growth radar at 1.2M visits (+71.9%) — Xiaomi's developer platform for the MiMo model family. With Xiaomi simultaneously investing in on-device inference, the platform's visit growth reflects the early ecosystem traction of Chinese consumer-hardware companies' "AI Native" strategies.

Openclaw (openclaw.ai) fell from 28.8M to 14.2M (-50.7%), the steepest decline among mid-tier products this month — its traffic source and product positioning remain unclear, worth monitoring. Accio (cross-border commerce search) -45.5% and Kimi (moonshot.cn gateway) -44.2% both have primary domains supporting their overall traffic, so single-domain drops don't necessarily signal product-level weakness. Grok's -14.4% pullback mirrors March's anomalous surge (jumping from #11 to #6 last month) — more likely a reversion to range than a structural decline. Perplexity's -7.2% continues a mild softening from March.

8. Three Takeaways

  1. Top-tier consolidation intensifies; Claude is the key wildcard. General AI alone commands 67.8% of all tracked visits; ChatGPT + Gemini + Claude together exceed 56%. Claude's two-month hypergrowth shows the top-tier is far from settled — the "AI gateway" battle is very much ongoing.
  2. Gemini is entering legitimate head-to-head territory with ChatGPT. The ChatGPT/Gemini ratio fell from 2.53× to 2.00× in three months — not linear extrapolation. Gemini's enterprise penetration, Android distribution, and rapid model capability catch-up are all compressing this gap in concert.
  3. Vertical categories are producing non-LLM breakout stars. Meshy.ai (+97.8% in 3D generation) and various AI workflow tools demonstrate that the next wave of AI traffic growth isn't purely from general-purpose chat — vertical applications with higher retention and word-of-mouth in professional contexts are carving out real scale.
