Work vs Personal Agents: AI’s Next Battleground

Work vs Personal Agents: September 2026 traffic, growth and opportunities across 100 products, with Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Grok Bot and Manus Cue.

From Claude Cowork and ChatGPT Work to Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Grok Bot and Manus Cue, Agents are taking on tasks and trying to keep working while the user is away. In AlphaMoat’s September web sample, visits grew 54.6% for Work Agents and 208.4% for Personal Agents. Within this sample, faster growth does not necessarily benefit more products: Work growth extends beyond its leaders, while a few products account for Personal’s rebound.

Work vs Personal Agents: what is the difference?

Personal Agents can do professional work; work Agents need not be enterprise purchases. These are overlapping dimensions.

Work Agents usually start with documents, spreadsheets, research or collaboration. Personal Agents focus on remembering a user’s preferences and past arrangements across tasks. The two can overlap: a personal Agent that follows up with clients and prepares meetings is also doing professional work.

Work Agents attracted 41.49M September web visits, about 1.5 times Personal Agents. WorkBuddy and Xiaohuanxiong account for 84.6% of the Work sample; Muse and Instinct hold 70.8% of Personal. These leaders already attract most visits. New entrants still need a specific reason for users to choose them.

Where are the US work Agents?

September sample ranks · company and product materials checked October 19, 2026

Tencent’s WorkBuddy and SenseTime’s Office Raccoon lead this sample with 84.6% of its visits. Chinese vendors’ dedicated entry points stand out here, but products with US-registered providers or US headquarters are also present.

The market comparison should also include Claude Cowork and ChatGPT Work, which take on work through general AI platforms. Microsoft 365 Copilot and Notion Agent enter through existing office software and workspaces; Glean and Lindy focus on enterprise knowledge and workflows. These products sit outside this 65-product total but compete for the same work.

Entry-point grouping also affects rank. NinjaTech AI lists product domains including myninja.ai and super.myninja.ai, while this sample contains only the office-Agent-tagged ninjatech.ai entry. The figures describe the growth of cataloged entry points. Assessing the opportunity also requires considering general AI platforms’ task execution, office software’s existing users and why someone would switch tools.

Ranks use the September sample; product observations are current as of October 19. US registration does not establish team origin or user location, and platform visits do not measure a specific Agent feature. Claude is gradually unifying Chat and Cowork; the table retains the Cowork name.

Website traffic captures only part of the activity. Personal Agents can also be used through apps and messaging tools, without a visit to the product’s website.

Muse and Instinct account for Personal Agents’ September growth. Excluding those two products, aggregate visits fell 9.3%. The rebound is concentrated in the leaders. The following months will show whether that attention lasts.

Within these catalog entries, Work Agents show a different pattern. WorkBuddy and Xiaohuanxiong lead, but the remaining products also gain 12.2% in aggregate visits. For a new entrant, a specific role, document type or collaboration process may offer a more practical starting point than an all-purpose assistant.

Muse, Dots, Grok Bot, Cue: taking on tasks and following through

These products are difficult to classify as exclusively work or personal Agents.

Muse
Meta Muse[1]

Acts on personal goals across apps on its own cloud computer. Users can reach it through a dedicated app or WhatsApp, using a familiar way to communicate.

OpenAI
OpenAI Dots[2]

Lives in ChatGPT, keeps context across conversations and can delegate tasks to Work or Codex. A personal Agent can draw on specialized tools to do professional work.

Grok Bot
Grok Bot[3]

Described as a digital teammate with a cloud computer, cross-app work and multiple cooperating Bots. Existing subscriptions give it a route to individual and team users.

Manus
Manus Cue[4]

A standalone app using Manus infrastructure. Each Agent has its own identity, computer and contact details; Agents can also work together as a team.

These products share an aim: let the user explain a goal, then have the Agent carry on. Work and Personal remain useful categories, but users may care more about whether they can trust an Agent with a particular task.

Mobile apps are attracting trials too. Muse’s dedicated app has an estimated 6.94M monthly downloads; Grok Bot has 2.00M, up +273.1%. Those downloads give products a chance to reach users. Whether people stay depends on what happens after installation.

Standalone apps need a separate installation; platform services can reach existing users. Visits and downloads are easier to isolate for standalone products. Embedded services need to be considered alongside their host platforms.

After the attention, who keeps the users?

After acquisition come repeat use, retention and payment.

  1. Work Agents: solve a specific problem first.Growth beyond the leaders leaves room to look within existing workflows: produce a document correctly, remove a repetitive step or deliver something a colleague can use. Returning for the next similar task is a practical test of value. Independent products also face Agents built into office suites and need a strong reason for users to switch tools.
  2. Personal Agents: give users a reason to keep delegating. Will users return next week or next month, after the launch attention fades? Remembering preferences, asking fewer repeated questions and finishing the job make long-term memory useful.
  3. Payment needs a concrete reason. Both categories have to answer the same business questions: how much time does the user save, what can they stop doing, and why would they pay again next month? Those answers have to come from actual use.
