Every AI responds differently to how prompts are structured. Some work best with XML tags, others prefer Markdown headers, and others use their own format entirely. Most people don't know this — they type the same plain text everywhere and wonder why results vary.

Prompte solves this by automatically formatting your prompt in the optimal structure for whichever AI you're talking to. You fill in simple fields (what role should the AI play, what's the task, what context matters, what output format you want), and Prompte assembles a properly structured prompt tuned for that specific platform.

The result: clearer instructions for the AI, more relevant responses for you, and far less time spent rephrasing and retrying.

WHAT PROMPTE DOES

Prompte gives you a floating toolkit that appears on any supported AI chat site. Click the button, choose your tool, fill in the fields, and generate a formatted prompt that gets inserted directly into the chat. No copy-pasting between tabs. No formatting by hand.

Here's what you get:

• CORT+ Builder — A structured prompt builder with 4 core fields (Context, Objective, Role, Task) plus optional extensions like Constraints, Tonality, and platform-specific settings. Each field has preset suggestions to get you started, or you can type freely. The builder adapts to each platform with unique options such as an Examples toggle for few-shot prompting, Verbosity control, Scope Discipline, and a Thinking Mode toggle for extended reasoning.

• Quick Mode — A minimal 2-field builder (Task + Context) for when you need a fast, simple prompt. Research shows Task + Context is the optimal structure for quick interactions. Fill in what you need, hit generate, done.

• AI Wizard — A guided, full-screen experience where you describe what you want in plain English. The AI analyzes your request, asks up to 3 clarifying questions, recommends the best platform for your task (with a confidence score), and generates a ready-to-use prompt. It even detects image-related requests and suggests the right tools.

• Format Converter — Paste any structured prompt and convert it between XML, Markdown, and hybrid formats instantly. The converter auto-detects the input format with a confidence percentage, then translates it to your chosen platform. Switch between AI tools without rewriting prompts from scratch.

• Prompt Library — Browse 50+ pre-built prompt templates across categories like Coding, Writing, Analysis, Creative, Business, Learning, and Meta (prompt engineering itself). Search, filter by platform and category, star your favourites, and insert any template directly into your chat. Pro users can save, edit, and export custom templates.

• Image Mode — A specialized tool for generating AI images. Uses the SDS framework (Subject, Detail, Style) to create flat, imperative prompts that reliably trigger image generation instead of getting a text description back. Includes a live word count indicator since shorter prompts (under 60 words) produce the best results.

• Research Help — When an AI asks you clarifying questions, this tool helps you organize and polish your answers. Paste the questions, write your responses, optionally use AI to refine them, then send everything back in one clean message.

• Smart Clarification — If Prompte detects that one of your fields is vague or ambiguous (like a product code instead of a description), it automatically asks a clarifying question and can even research the answer for you with a confidence score.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Visit any supported AI chat site 2. Click the floating Prompte button (it appears automatically in the corner) 3. Choose your tool: CORT+ for structured prompts, Quick for fast prompts, Wizard for AI-guided building, or any other tool 4. Fill in the fields using presets or your own text 5. Click Generate (or press Ctrl+Enter / Cmd+Enter) 6. Your formatted prompt is inserted directly into the chat input 7. Send it to the AI and get better results

The floating button is draggable — move it anywhere on the screen. It docks to viewport edges and remembers its position between sessions. Popovers are also draggable and some are resizable, so the UI stays out of your way.

Platform detection is automatic. When you visit a supported site, Prompte appears and formats your prompts accordingly. You never need to configure which site you're on. Each platform gets genuinely different prompt structures — not just different formatting wrappers — based on what produces the best results for that AI's architecture.

AI ENHANCEMENT (OPTIONAL, FREEMIUM)

Prompte includes optional AI-powered enhancement that can improve your prompts:

• Field Expansion — Highlight any field and let AI expand a brief note into a detailed, well-structured instruction. Write "make it formal" in the Tone field and AI expands it into specific guidance about vocabulary, sentence structure, and register.

• Full Prompt Enhancement — Submit your entire prompt for AI analysis and optimization. The AI reviews structure, specificity, and clarity, then returns an improved version you can accept or reject.

• Quick Enhancement — In Quick Mode, enhance both Task and Context together into a polished, cohesive prompt.

• Response Polishing — When answering clarifying questions, AI can polish your rough notes into clear, concise responses.

Enhancement is available in three tiers:

Free — 10 AI enhancements per month. No payment required. Just verify your email at prompte.app.

Pro — 100 AI enhancements per month for a small subscription. Includes full Library editing, saving, and exporting custom templates.

DIY — Unlimited enhancements at no cost. Provide your own API key and all AI calls go directly to the provider. No backend dependency, no limits.

You can use every other feature of Prompte (builders, converter, library browsing, image mode, keyboard shortcuts, presets) completely free with no account required. Enhancement is the only feature that uses AI credits.

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS AND PRODUCTIVITY

Prompte is built for speed:

• Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) — Generate and insert prompt from any builder
• Tab — Navigate between fields, or accept autocomplete suggestions
• Shift+Tab — Navigate fields backwards
• Escape — Close any popover, wizard, or overlay
• Right-click selected text on any supported site to open Prompte with that text pre-filled

Each field supports autocomplete ghost text based on your input history and presets. Start typing and suggestions appear in faded text — press Tab to accept. Presets are available for every field category: Role (Writer, Coder, Researcher, Engineer), Task (Development, Writing, Analysis, Design), Context (Technical, Business, Creative, Personal), and Output (Code, Document, Data, Communication).

DRAFT PERSISTENCE

Your work is automatically saved. If you close a popover and reopen it, your fields are still there. Drafts persist for 7 days across browser sessions using local storage. This includes CORT fields, Quick fields, Wizard progress, and your floating button position.

PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS

Prompte requests only the permissions it needs:

• Storage — Save your drafts, presets, and session state locally
• Active Tab — Insert generated prompts into your current AI chat
• Context Menus — Add the right-click "Build AI Prompt" option
• Side Panel — Host the side panel builder interface

Prompte only runs on supported AI chat sites plus prompte.app (for account sync). It does not run on other websites, does not collect browsing history, and does not inject scripts into unrelated pages.

When you use AI Enhancement, your prompt text is sent to the Prompte backend for processing. In DIY mode, prompts go directly to the AI provider using your own key — they never touch the Prompte backend. No prompts are stored on Prompte's servers after processing.
